Newsome Delivers Sustainable Process Cooling Upgrade for Chocolate Research Facility
We have recently completed the supply and installation of a new process chiller for one of our longest-standing clients, supporting ongoing research and development within their chocolate manufacturing facility.
The project centred on providing a reliable source of chilled process water while aligning closely with the client’s sustainability objectives. To achieve this, we supplied a high-efficiency process chiller operating on R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant, a natural refrigerant with a very low environmental impact. This choice supports the client’s green credentials while delivering stable and efficient cooling for sensitive research applications.
Initially, the requirement was to supply chilled water directly from the chiller to test equipment. As the project progressed, additional specialist equipment was introduced that required frequent connection and disconnection from the chilled water system. To accommodate this change and protect the refrigeration plant, we retrofitted a primary and secondary heat exchange system.
This revised configuration allows the chiller circuit to operate continuously and efficiently under stable conditions while providing flexibility on the secondary side for changing research equipment. The approach reduces mechanical stress on the chiller, improves temperature stability and enhances overall system reliability.
To further strengthen system resilience, we also introduced an antifreeze glycol solution, providing frost protection and safeguarding the system during low ambient conditions.
The completed installation delivers a future-proof, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible cooling solution that supports the client’s evolving research needs. This project reflects our ability to adapt engineering solutions in response to changing operational requirements, while maintaining a strong focus on efficiency, sustainability and long-term performance.
