Newsome Now Supplying the Latest Low GWP Cosmotec LASER Chiller
We are pleased to announce that, as an Approved Partner for Cosmotec, Newsome is now supplying the latest low Global Warming Potential LASER chiller to customers across the UK.
Our partnership with Cosmotec, a recognised leader in industrial cooling and climate control technology, enables us to provide clients with direct access to a comprehensive portfolio of advanced equipment. This includes industrial chillers, industrial air conditioning systems, filter fans, heat exchangers, ventilation solutions and accessories for industrial air conditioners. By combining Cosmotec’s product innovation with our in-house expertise in system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance, we deliver engineered solutions tailored to each application.
The latest addition to the Cosmotec range, the WRA LASER chiller, reflects the ongoing shift towards high-performance cooling with lower environmental impact.
Low GWP Refrigerant and Regulatory Compliance
The WRA operates using R513A refrigerant, which has a Global Warming Potential of 631 and complies with Regulation (EU) 573/2024. Classified as A1 safety class, R513A is non-toxic and non-flammable, allowing the unit to be installed and operated without additional safety measures related to refrigerant handling. The unit also meets the requirements of the European ErP2021 – SEPR HT (EU) 2016/2281 regulation, which defines minimum seasonal energy performance standards for chillers. For customers operating in regulated industrial environments, this ensures compliance while supporting energy efficiency objectives.
As environmental legislation continues to evolve, the introduction of this model demonstrates a clear commitment to reducing carbon impact without compromising cooling performance.
Engineered for Laser Cooling Precision
The WRA is Cosmotec’s flagship model for laser machine cooling. Laser processes demand stable thermal conditions, as even minor temperature fluctuations can affect beam accuracy, optics performance and overall system reliability. This chiller is equipped with an electronic thermostatic valve, brushless EC fans and a hot gas bypass valve. These components are managed by the LASERPACK control system, which maintains process fluid temperature within a ±0.5 K hysteresis band, even under variable thermal loads. The system incorporates two independent cooling circuits, complete with a three-way modulating valve and dedicated pumps. This allows separate control of the laser source and the optical components, ensuring precise thermal regulation across critical areas of the machine. The result is stable, repeatable performance in demanding industrial environments.
Fast Restart and Operational Flexibility
In addition to precision cooling, the unit includes a heating function with an integrated preheating resistance. This enables the cooling water temperature to be raised to the required level before operation, allowing rapid restart after downtime or shutdown. In colder environments, this function significantly reduces start-up delays and supports continuous production schedules.
The power supply configuration of 400/3/50 – 460/3/60 ensures the unit can be installed across a wide range of global markets. This flexibility is particularly valuable for OEMs and manufacturers operating internationally.
Designed for Reliability and Ease of Maintenance
Reliability has been built into the hydraulic and control design. The non-ferrous circuit protects the process fluid from contamination, helping to maintain cooling efficiency and protect sensitive laser components. To safeguard against freezing risks, the system includes a differential pressure switch and an anti-freeze probe to protect the evaporator. The hydronic module, suitable for atmospheric hydraulic circuits, features a level sensor and an automatic adjustable hydraulic bypass valve to stabilise flow conditions. Laser hydraulic configurations can sometimes lead to cavitation during start-up. The electronic control interface includes a dedicated procedure to protect the secondary circuit pump, reducing mechanical stress and preventing avoidable failures.
From an installation and servicing perspective, the pumps in both circuits are installed with flooded suction to simplify priming operations. Pre-installed ball valves on the inlet and outlet connections, along with a standard filter kit, reduce installation time and support efficient ongoing maintenance.
