Newsome Delivers Tailored HVAC Solution for Leading UK Chocolate Manufacturer

Here at Newsome, we recently completed a bespoke HVAC installation for a major UK-based chocolate manufacturer, helping them overcome significant temperature control challenges in their main processing hall.

The client approached us during the summer months with a recurring issue: high internal heat loads were making it increasingly difficult to maintain comfortable and compliant conditions, with indoor temperatures frequently exceeding 28°C. This not only impacted productivity but also posed risks to temperature-sensitive control equipment and staff wellbeing.

The objective was clear—design and install a reliable, energy-efficient cooling system capable of maintaining a consistent internal temperature of 25°C, regardless of outdoor conditions.

Following a full site assessment, our team specified and installed an Airfinity AHU IC270, air handling unit supported by a robust air distribution system using FabricAir textile ducts. This setup delivered 11.66m³/s of airflow and 241.08kW of cooling power. By incorporating free cooling via modulating dampers with enthalpy control, the system also improves energy efficiency by taking advantage of cooler ambient air.

The installation, including steel gantry works and rigid insulated ducting, was completed with minimal disruption to production. Careful planning ensured all aspects—from equipment placement to pipework layout—met the site’s strict food safety and EHS standards.

Post-installation, the system has delivered on all performance targets, improving employee comfort, reducing energy costs, and ensuring consistent environmental conditions throughout the hall.
