Complete Temperature and Humidity Control Hire Package with 300 kVA Generator

Overview

Client: Global provider in the field of submarine communications technology

Industry: submarine communications technology

Project Overview: Complete Temperature and Humidity Control Hire Package with 300 kVA Generator

This specialist facility with strict climate control needs, is required to undertake a full operational shutdown every five years for essential testing and maintenance. During this period, power to the entire building is disconnected, creating a critical need for an external climate control solution to maintain stable indoor conditions. Due to the sensitive nature of the products stored within the facility, the client needed a robust, temporary temperature and humidity control system to ensure optimal conditions for a full week during the shutdown.

The facility has specific climate requirements to maintain product integrity:

Temperature Range: 21°C to 24°C

Relative Humidity: 30% to 50%

To meet these needs, the client sought out Newsome Ltd for a comprehensive temperature and humidity control solution capable of maintaining these precise conditions throughout the testing period.

Newsome Solution

At Newsome, we understand that maintaining strict climate conditions in facilities like this is essential, particularly during periods when the usual power and HVAC systems are offline. Our team assessed the requirements and proposed a complete package tailored to the client’s needs, designed to ensure consistent temperature and humidity levels, even during a full shutdown.

To deliver reliable and controlled climate conditions, we provided the following equipment:

1 x 150 AHU (Air Handling Unit): This high-capacity Air Handling Unit  was selected for its ability to maintain stable airflow and regulate the internal temperature within the specified range. The AHU also allowed for precise water-side control, enabling seamless integration with the chiller and boiler to modulate temperature effectively.

1 x 135 kW Chiller: The chiller was integrated with the AHU to supply cooled water, providing effective temperature control throughout the building. This chiller was chosen for its reliability and capacity, ensuring consistent cooling even in challenging ambient conditions.

1 x 100 kW Oil Boiler: To balance the temperature and prevent any drops below the desired range, we supplied an oil-fired boiler capable of delivering 100 kW of heating. This boiler worked in tandem with the chiller to maintain a stable temperature within the specified range of 21°C to 24°C.

1 x RL 71 Dehumidifier: Humidity control was critical for the facility, given the impact that moisture fluctuations could have on sensitive products. The RL 71 industrial dehumidifier was installed to ensure that humidity remained within the strict 30% to 50% range, efficiently removing excess moisture from the air as needed. Humidity levels were regulated by a return sensor positioned on the process inlet of the dehumidifier, providing real-time monitoring and control.

1 x 300 kVA Generator: As the facility would be without power for the duration of the testing period, a reliable power source was essential. Our 300 kVA generator provided consistent power to the entire setup, ensuring uninterrupted operation of all climate control equipment throughout the week.

Additional Components: To facilitate efficient airflow and ensure optimal distribution of conditioned air throughout the facility, we supplied flexible ducting. This ducting was securely connected to the spigots and existing openings on the side of the building, allowing the conditioned air to circulate effectively and reach all required areas.

Execution and Monitoring

To maintain the required climate conditions precisely, our team implemented a detailed control and monitoring system:

Temperature Control: The AHU was equipped with water-side control, enabling adjustments based on real-time temperature feedback from an internal space sensor. This allowed the system to respond dynamically to any temperature fluctuations within the building, keeping conditions within the clients specified range.

Humidity Control: Humidity was regulated using the dehumidifier’s return sensor, which continuously monitored the relative humidity on the process inlet. This sensor ensured that the dehumidifier activated as needed to maintain humidity within the 30% to 50% range, adjusting for any fluctuations caused by environmental or operational factors. Throughout the project, our team conducted regular checks and monitoring to verify that the equipment was performing to specification and that conditions remained stable.

Project Outcome

With Newsome’s comprehensive temperature and humidity control hire package, the client successfully maintained the required climate conditions within their facility throughout the entire shutdown period. The seamless operation of our equipment allowed the client to conduct their five-year testing without any risk to product quality or safety.
