Temperature and Humidity Control Hire Package for Sustainable Food Processor

Overview

Client: Sustainable Dairy, Confectionery, and Plant-Based Ingredients Manufacturer

Project Overview: Temperature and Humidity Control Hire Package for Sustainable Food Processor

This client, a leading producer in the food industry with a commitment to sustainable practices, faced significant climate control challenges during the peak of summer. The combination of external heat, high production machinery output, and limitations in their existing cooling system led to soaring temperatures within the facility, reaching over 40°C, with relative humidity levels climbing to 70%. Such extreme conditions risked product quality and worker comfort, making it critical for the client to stabilise their internal environment.

To maintain optimal operational standards, the client required a controlled climate with a temperature range of 16°C to 20°C and relative humidity levels between 30% and 35%. Recognising the urgency of these requirements, the client sought Newsome Ltd’s expertise to implement a tailored, efficient temperature and humidity control solution.

Newsome’s Solution

After assessing the facility and understanding the specific environmental needs, Newsome developed a comprehensive plan to bring both temperature and humidity levels within the desired range. Our proposal included a robust equipment setup, designed to deliver immediate relief from the intense internal heat and provide consistent, controlled conditions throughout the summer season.

The equipment we provided included:

1 x AHU 150 Air Handling Unit (AHU): This high-capacity AHU was chosen for its ability to manage both temperature and humidity efficiently within large industrial spaces. Equipped with water-side control, it allowed precise regulation of temperature, effectively cooling the facility to maintain the specified 16°C to 20°C range.

1 x 120 kW Chiller: To support the Air Handling Unit, we supplied a 120 kW chiller, ensuring a reliable and consistent supply of cooled water. This chiller rental was essential in managing the substantial heat load generated by both production processes and the external weather, playing a key role in reducing ambient temperatures.

2 x RL 71 Industrial Dehumidifiers: With relative humidity initially reaching 70%, effective dehumidification was a priority. We deployed two RL 71 industrial dehumidifiers, strategically positioned to bring down the humidity to the required 30% to 35% range. Each dehumidifier was connected to a return sensor on the process inlet, allowing for real-time monitoring and precise humidity control adjustments.

Ducting and Installation:

To facilitate effective air distribution, flexible ducting was connected to spigots fitted onto the inner walls of the facility. This setup enabled even circulation of conditioned air across the production areas, ensuring that all critical zones benefited from the climate control system.

System Monitoring and Control

For optimal performance, we integrated continuous monitoring and automated controls to manage both temperature and humidity effectively:

Temperature Control: The temperature within the facility was regulated via water-side control on the AHU, with an internal space sensor continuously monitoring and adjusting temperatures to remain within the 16°C to 20°C range. This setup allowed the system to respond dynamically to temperature fluctuations, ensuring consistent cooling.

Humidity Control: Humidity was managed by a return sensor on the process inlet of the dehumidifiers. This sensor provided real-time data, enabling the dehumidifiers to adjust their operation based on current humidity levels, ensuring that the environment consistently remained within the 30% to 35% range.

By implementing these control measures, Newsome provided the client with a stable and reliable solution, able to adjust to changing heat loads throughout the day.

Project Outcome

With Newsome’s temperature and humidity control package in place, the client achieved the stable conditions they needed to protect product integrity and maintain worker comfort, regardless of high external temperatures and production heat. Our solution successfully brought the facility’s temperature down to the target range of 16°C to 20°C and reduced humidity from 70% to between 30% and 35%. This achievement helped safeguard the quality of their dairy, confectionery, and plant-based products and improved the overall working environment.

Key Benefits Delivered:

Reliable Temperature Control: The AHU and chiller combination effectively countered high heat loads, ensuring stable and comfortable temperatures throughout the production space.

Precise Humidity Management: The dual RL 71 dehumidifiers, controlled by the return sensor, provided accurate humidity reduction, creating an optimal climate to protect sensitive products from moisture issues.

Customised Installation and Setup: The flexible ducting and strategic equipment placement allowed for even distribution of conditioned air, ensuring that all critical areas within the facility received the necessary climate control.

Proactive Monitoring and Adjustment: Our control setup enabled real-time adjustments to both temperature and humidity, providing a dependable solution that could adapt to fluctuating conditions during peak production hours.
